1996 ford explorer xlt automatic/ solenoid location?

hello ...I'm not sure if this is a different problem but the 4wd will not engage. all the fuses are good and the 4wd light turns on but the front end wont engage. i was thinking it was the solenoid for the 4wd thats not making full contact and i was wondering where the solenoid is or if this another problem?
