Do you think its fair when people ask those questions putting anime characters against American ones?

What I mean by American characters are such as comic book characters or from television shows. The reason I ask this is because my friends, my brother, and I always get into these arguments. I usually take the side of the American created characters but I end up getting beaten down since it seemed like the anime characters are specially designed to be practically invincible. I mean, come on, in shows such as DBZ, Naruto, Bleach, etc. if you actually beat them they'll just go back, get another form and then come back and whip you. They always get to the next level and get stronger. So is it fair?
